Severe weather warning in Bavaria: continuous rain and storms, risk of flooding in Swabia – Bavaria

The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of continuous rain and squalls in parts of Bavaria. It was said on Monday morning that heavy, continuous rain could be expected in the Alps, the southern foothills and the Oberallgäu until Wednesday. The risk of flooding is also increasing.

Strong winds will blow in western Bavaria on Monday, and hurricane gusts of up to 120 kilometers per hour can develop in the Alps. On Tuesday night the wind will also blow stronger in the east and then subside.

The constant rain is causing river levels to rise, especially in the southwest of the Free State. On Monday morning, the Bavarian Flood Intelligence Service (HND) issued an advance warning for floods in numerous Swabian districts and cities. There is a significant increase in water levels, especially in the Iller area. The first outbreaks are to be expected on Tuesday night.

According to the HND, the Iller could already reach reporting level 3 in Sonthofen and Kempten by Tuesday afternoon, which corresponds to the flooding of individual built-up properties or cellars. Smaller spills are also possible on Mindel, Günz, Schmutter, Zusam, Wertach and Paar.
