Setting the course for the renovation of the Landestheater Coburg – Bavaria

The Free State of Bavaria and the city have concluded a financing agreement for the renovation of the Coburg State Theater. A cost framework of 157 million euros is therefore planned for the project, as a precaution a further 120 million euros have already been budgeted for possible cost increases and 83 million euros for possible risk costs. The Free State takes over two thirds, one third comes from the city of Coburg.

“In Coburg we want to preserve a historic building and make it fit for modern game operations,” said Minister of Art Markus Blume (CSU), according to his ministry on Wednesday. “We are very pleased that the planning for the general refurbishment of the Coburg State Theater is finally getting underway,” commented Coburg Mayor Dominik Sauerteig (SPD) on the agreement.

The theater building, which dates back to the 19th century, has long been in need of renovation. In the meantime, the game operation in the house ended so that the construction work can begin. The theater will move into a purpose-built interim venue in the fall – the Globe Theatre.
