Senator Stéphane Ravier sentenced in Lyon for public insult

Marseille senator Stéphane Ravier (Reconquest!) was fined Tuesday 10,000 euros by the Lyon criminal court for public insult after publishing an insulting message in January against Lyon lawyer David Metaxas.

“This is the legal rate for a senator for having insulted a judicial officer in the exercise of his duties. I am proud of this case law,” reacted the lawyer in a short message. At the end of a trial which was held in mid-January before the Lyon Assize Court, the lawyer complained of having been the target of insulting remarks, particularly from the elected official. from Bouches-du-Rhône, who had described him on X as a “scum”.

Ordered to publish the decision on his networks

David Metaxas had in this case represented Youcef Tebbal, 24 years old, sentenced to twelve years of criminal imprisonment for having run over by car and killing a young woman, Axelle Dorier, dragged for more than 800 meters in July 2020 in Lyon. The verdict, followed by the senator’s publication, generated a wave of insults and threats on social networks targeting David Metaxas.

In addition to a fine of 10,000 euros, the court also ordered the publication of the decision on Stéphane Ravier’s social networks, under penalty of 1,000 euros per day. He also awarded 10,000 euros in damages to the civil party, and 1,000 euros in compensation for legal costs.
