Self-service scooters prohibited for minors

“For your safety, scooters are prohibited for children under 18”. Self-service scooter operators Dott and Tier announced the color on their website this Tuesday. Minors will no longer have the right to access the service. This decision, which follows long discussions with the city of Lyon, comes a few weeks after the death of two teenagers mowed down by a driver.

From now on, identity documents (passport, driving license or identity card) will be requested in order to be able to scan a QR allowing vehicles to be rented. In case of transgression, minors will no longer be insured, warn operators, confirming information of the site News Lyon.

Dott and Tier are the only two private operators authorized to deploy their fleet in the city of Lyon, which has limited the number of vehicles rented to 2,000. However, the municipality should call on new service providers in the coming months. A call for tenders has been launched for commissioning scheduled for March 2023. In 2021, 400,000 unique users were counted in Lyon.
