The former PS candidate for the 2017 presidential election Ségolène Royal asked, this Friday, Anne Hidalgo, socialist candidate for 2022, to “withdraw” for Yannick Jadot (EELV) or Jean-Luc Mélenchon (LFI).
Proposed Wednesday by the socialist Anne Hidalgo, the idea of a primary on the left to remedy its dispersion has received an end to all its environmentalists, rebellious and communist competitors, who denounce a tactical maneuver.
“Success of the primary at LR”
“If we want to be positive, she has come halfway by saying we need union”, reacted Ségolène Royal Friday on LCI. Now “she must withdraw for one of the two candidates who is in front of her, that’s the dynamic of union, even if it’s hard,” she advocated. Because “Jean-Luc Mélenchon did a job, he was excellent in his meeting [dimanche] ; Yannick Jadot went through a primary which was not easy. So they did the job. We can not suddenly tell them to drop out because: “Me, I change my mind and I do not know how to package my withdrawal” “, argued Ségolène Royal about Anne Hidalgo.
“The union is not decided on a TV set, it’s a job, a respect, a long journey,” she added. Ségolène Royal explained the turnaround of the mayor of Paris by the fact that “she saw the success of the primary at LR”, a “successful primary” with “the rally” to the key.
“Three opportunities to make primaries”
“She said to herself: ‘I was wrong, I should have done a primary. But you cannot downgrade in politics. (…) You have to respect the voters at some point. And the major issue is the absence of a project: people want to know what to do, ”insisted the former minister.
Anne Hidalgo “had three opportunities to make primaries during this process: within the PS which she refused – she was not subjected to legitimate competition within a large political organization (…), on the occasion of the Popular Primary – she rallies to it now (…), to the Green Primary – she could very well rally to it, ”she recalled. “Politics is both moments of truth and attention to the tempo of things,” she concluded.
