Because Andrea Wittmann ran for the Free Voters two years ago with some success, the CSU wanted their retreat in Seeon to be different. There was applause at the end though.
Well, the spirit of Kreuth has long since evaporated since the CSU turned its back on Wittelsbacher’s Wildbad a few years ago. Instead, the CSU state group in the Bundestag has been in retreat since 2018 in the Upper Bavarian monastery of Seeon. But whether this seeon is really the right thing for the Christian Social federal politicians? After all, the town and monastery are in the district of Traunstein, which forms the Bundestag constituency of Traunstein with the Berchtesgadener Land.
And in that, the CSU got a “miserable result” in 2021, as Peter Ramsauer, who was still directly elected with 36.6 percent of the first votes, had to determine afterwards. In return, the so-called others came to 18.3 percent of the first votes and 20.1 percent of the second votes, which was mainly due to the free voter candidate Andrea Wittmann. The CSU would have preferred not to let the Seeon church musician play the organ for her anymore.
Wittmann has been playing the organ in Seeon for much longer than the national group has been in seclusion there. And until recently there were never any problems with the ecumenical devotion to Epiphany. The now retired head of the responsible Trostberg police station, Martin Hammerl, was supposed to play the trumpet again and Wittmann the organ. The fact that Hammerl injured his hand and was replaced by another trumpeter was not the problem. The problem was suddenly Wittmann. Because the state group had only met twice in Berlin because of Corona, and in the meantime Wittmann had been nominated by the conservative competition as a candidate for the Bundestag. According to Wittmann, the Seeon parish administrator Florian Schomers rejected the request made in a call from Berlin to have someone else play music for the exam. However, the attempt surprised a member of the national group so much that it was reported to a local reporter from the Upper Bavarian Volksblatt stuck.
In his own words, Wittmann is just as enthusiastic about parliamentary group leader Alexander Dobrindt as he is about Prime Minister Markus Söder. She said she “only ended up with the Free Voters by chance” and would actually be “the ideal CSU candidate” – and not because she is also a beer sommelier or because she broke the record in continuous yodelling from an Austrian in 15 hours and eleven seconds in 2016 has. So far, however, no Christian Socialist has complained about either.
