Security agents sentenced for the death of a homeless man expelled from a store and returned to the streets

The penalty fell. On Tuesday, three security guards were sentenced by the Lyon Criminal Court to three-year suspended prison sentences for failure to assist a person in danger. In question, the death of an Austrian homeless man, on the eve of the Christmas holidays 2022.

The day before, the man had been spotted in one of the supermarkets of the Part-Dieu shopping center, where he went to swallow half a bottle of whiskey on the spot. An agent, responsible for ensuring the security of the premises, was called to dislodge him. He himself sought the help of two colleagues, who lent him a hand to move the person concerned, totally drunk.

To a call

Installed in a wheelchair, the latter was taken outside and laid on a pile of boxes in front of an emergency exit. This is where his body was discovered the next day, noted Progress. The autopsy determined that the homeless man had died the same evening from poisoning and acute respiratory distress.

Sentenced for “failure to assist a person in danger”, the three agents replied that they had only followed the instructions given. They intend to appeal this decision, reveals Progress.
