According to British experts, the Russian military is recruiting around 30,000 people per month for its war of aggression in Ukraine. This emerged from the daily intelligence report from the Ministry of Defense in London on Saturday.

According to the message distributed on As a result, Russia continues to have a quantitative advantage over the Ukrainians in terms of ammunition and equipment.

The Russians can therefore continue to advance gradually to the west of the town of Avdiivka, which was recently captured by the Russian attackers, the statement continued. At the end of March, the villages of Tonenke and Orlivka most likely also fell into Russian hands. Others are therefore contested.

Despite numerous sustained attacks elsewhere on the front line, the British assess Russian progress in recent weeks as little.

Kiev reports two deaths from Russian shelling in eastern Ukraine

According to Kiev, at least two people have been killed by Russian shelling in eastern Ukraine. The city of Krasnohorivka “was under enemy fire during the night and in the morning,” said the governor of the Donetsk region, Vadym Filashkin, on the Telegram online service on Saturday. A 70-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man were killed.

Filashkin called on the civilians still living there to leave the city. Krasnohorivka lies directly on the front line in the eastern Donetsk region, more than half of which is controlled by Russian forces.

On the night of Friday to Saturday, the Ukrainian Air Force said it shot down nine of a total of twelve Russian explosive drones in the Kherson, Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava regions.

Ukrainian forces have reported “difficult” fighting on the eastern front for months as they grapple with ammunition shortages and Russia launches relentless airstrikes.

Moscow outnumbers Kiev six times on the front lines, resulting in losses of troops and positions, recently appointed Ukrainian army chief Oleksandr Syrsky said on Friday. (dpa/mbo)
