second night of urban violence in Cronenbourg and Neuhof

The night of Thursday June 29 to Friday June 30 was marked by numerous attacks on property and buildings in the Cronenbourg and Neuhof districts. Faced with these riots, the prefecture deployed the Raid and the Gendarmerie Intervention Platoon as well as a surveillance helicopter.

As on the previous night, a series of attacks on property and buildings took place on the night of Thursday 29 to Friday 30 June in Strasbourg, two days after the death of young Nahel, killed Tuesday by a police officer after a refusal to comply in Nanterre.

According to a report communicated Friday morning by the prefecture of Bas-Rhin, no injuries were to be deplored but 74 vehicles were burned and two schools in Cronenbourg suffered “significant damage” despite the deployment of the intervention forces of the national police (Raid) and the gendarmerie (Psig). A helicopter equipped with a thermal camera was also deployed.

The Sophie Germain college was the target of an attempted intrusion and fire, quickly countered by the arrival of the police, according to elements collected on the spot Friday morning. The establishment was closed, at least for the day of Friday, June 30.

In front of the Paul Langevin elementary school in Cronenbourg, the parking lots were targeted by the rioters.

The Marguerite Perey school, in the same district, was also the target of incendiary devices, the very significant damage spread inside the building, the library was destroyed as well as the activity room. The school is closed for an indefinite period.

According to Nadia Zourgui, deputy mayor of Strasbourg in charge of public tranquility, the Caravanage device is being dismantled. This swimming pool, installed for local children in the courtyard of the Perey school since June 19, costs more than €100,000. Security guards exercised their right of withdrawal overnight from Thursday to Friday. It will be moved to space K, in the Gare district.

The prefect of Bas-Rhin, Josiane Chevalier, regrets that the damage was greater overnight from Thursday to Friday than the day before:

“We still discovered damage this morning. Residents of affected neighborhoods have a right to security. We will establish a new device for the weekend. »

In Hautepierre, the Erasmus college was also targeted and the shopping center was the victim of an intrusion attempt.

The district management of the lessor Ophéa and the socio-cultural center of Neuhof were also the target of damage, as well as the town hall of the Neuhof-Meinau district.
