Despite the bad weather and the holidays, one of the largest demonstrations in recent years is taking place in Munich. Keynote speaker Düzen Tekkal received several rounds of applause at the “Sea of Lights”, Mayor Dieter Reiter reacted euphorically after the event.

Tens of thousands of people came on Sunday evening to form a sea of lights “for democracy, against racism, anti-Semitism and hate speech.” The organizers speak of 300,000 participants, the police estimate that between 75,000 and 100,000 people came. What is certain is that it is one of the largest demonstrations in recent years, despite the rainy weather during the day and the carnival holidays.
