The second leg against Inter Milan had been proclaimed by FC Barcelona as a ‘do or die’ game – only with a win against the Nerazzurri would the Catalans have had a realistic chance of progressing in the Champions League.
After the 3:3 against Inter, Barça now not only have to beat FC Bayern, but also hope that the Italians blunder at home against Viktoria Pilsen. Even the boldest optimist will admit that this scenario is unlikely – the Catalans are threatened with elimination after the group stage and slipping into the Europa League like last year.
After all the investments in the summer, that would be a big disappointment and also a setback for FC Barcelona.
