Rouven Schröder is apparently about to get involved with RB Leipzig. The 47-year-old is to become the new sports director of Saxony. According to a report by MDR the commitment of the former Schalke sports director is “only a matter of time”.
Schröder was on Thursday afternoon for SPORT1 initially unavailable. Schröder’s current employer, Schalke 04, reacted in the afternoon (Schröder’s contract was not terminated). “As of today, there is no request from a club for Rouven Schröder,” said the Royal Blues. But that could change soon.
Already had in October SPORT1 and Bild reports that Schröder is a hot candidate for Leipzig, also because Leipzig’s sports director Max Eberl is friends with him.
But there is still a catch: As mentioned, Schröder is still under contract with the Royal Blues, so a transfer fee should be due. (DATA: Bundesliga results)
Schröder surprisingly resigned as Schalke sports director at the end of October. As stated in the club announcement, the 47-year-old asked to end his contract early “for personal reasons”.
