School newspapers in Bavaria: Workshops for Blattmacher winners – Bavaria

For many years, one of the most exciting dates for me has been the workshops for the winners of the leaf maker competition. Firstly, they are an opportunity to get to know Bavaria, because the best editorial offices are spread evenly across the country. And when else do you come to Burglengenfeld, Eltmann or Münsterschwarzach? Secondly, I’m always curious about how children and young people tick. I like to discuss with them because I’m interested in their opinions on the issues of the day.

Climate change, war, gender debates – all of this finds its way into the classroom and thus also into the Bavarian school newspapers. This year I was particularly happy that I could just stand at the front of the board again, without any zoom or teams. My random samples showed that the vast majority of children and young people coped well with the demands of the Corona period and in the end even joked about the strange hybrid lessons during the pandemic. And what I notice again and again: Despite the many crises, young people are looking positively to the future. There has probably never been a generation that has so many career opportunities. With this in mind, I am already looking forward to the coming trips as an assistant teacher to Beck from Munich.
