“Sylt for everyone” is the motto of a campaign that wants to draw attention to the division in society using the example of the holiday island popular with wealthy people.

They’re back on the island: punks are open in Tinnum on Monday Sylt set up a protest camp lasting several weeks. In the morning, around 20 punks and other demonstrators set up their tents on an area at the Tinnumer Festwiese on the outskirts of Westerland. The camp has been approved under certain conditions by the North Frisian district administration.

Under the motto “Sylt for everyone” the group Aktion Sylt criticizes a division in society. Islanders are being driven out by gentrification, the rich are shutting themselves off, according to the website. “Housing should be a fundamental right,” said Jonas, one of the organizers. “And not be made impossible by the fact that some people buy a big villa for two or three nice weeks in the summer”.

Last summer, among other things, punks protesting against the development of Sylt camped in a park in front of the Westerland town hall for weeks. Residents and vacationers complained about noise pollution and pollution; finally the camp had to be cleared after a corresponding court order. This year there was initially no sign of the punks in Westerland’s pedestrian zone.

This year, the organizers estimated the number of participants for registration at 20 to 50. According to the conditions, the event is limited to a maximum of 300 camping people.
