The European Night of Museums is back this evening for a new edition! Discover the participating museums in Annecy and its surroundings, as well as their programs for this special evening.

What is European Museum Night?

European Museum Night is an event that takes place in more than 3,000 museums and nearly 30 European countries! The event runs from dusk until midnight, and offers free access to a multitude of museums not only in Annecy, but throughout France. During this exceptional evening, the museums open their doors to offer enlightened tours, fun tours, screenings and various activities.

The Annecy Castle Museum

For its third consecutive edition, the Musée-Château d’Annecy is joining forces with the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional for a festive evening dedicated to theater. On the occasion of this European Museum Night 2024, discover new scenes and texts inspired by the museum’s collections and its historic architecture.

Students from the Conservatory’s Professional Orientation Cycle (COP) in theater will host the evening with a variety of performances, ranging from contemporary poetry to literature and theatrical fragments. Each performance is designed to dialogue with the works and spaces of the castle.

The turbine at Cran-Gevrier

Museums Annecy and surrounding areasLa Turbine, in partnership with the Turbine media library and Savoie Biblio, invites you for an immersive European Museum Night. Cross the ages and create your own stories using fun and educational activities. Here is an overview of the activities offered:

  • A journey through time : this workshop allows you to create your own mini-film using an interactive video editing table. Mix video clips, music and sound effects using interactive cards. Duration: 15 minutes, continuous.
  • A night to cross the ages : Take part in a mini archaeological dig and transform objects from the past into luminous works of art for the night. Duration: 15 minutes, continuous.
  • Science bubbles: “Frauds in archaeology” : this one-hour conference reveals the various aspects of archaeological fraud. Explore the most striking cases of fraud and learn to recognize fact from fiction by analyzing photographs. Registration required on site 30 minutes before each session.
  • Exhibition “Archéo, an exhibition to dig into” : Discover the world of archeology in this interactive exhibition. Study human bones, pottery fragments, coins and more, while learning the methods of archaeologists. Continuous exhibition, duration 30 minutes.

Annecy MuseumsThe Écomusée du Lac transports you to the Savoyard Alps of the 19th century for a journey back in time. Daily life of the time, as well as significant events in Savoy, are presented in an intimate and engaging manner. For the European Night of Museums, two special visits are organized:

  • At the Children’s Museum! : this visit, specially designed for children, invites them to a fun and interactive exploration of the ecomuseum, promising a fun and enriching time. Scheduled for 6 p.m.
  • Little family secrets : set off to discover the anecdotes and secrets of our ancestors’ daily lives through a narrated visit that will immerse you in local history. Scheduled for 8 p.m.

The “Our History” museum in Rumilly

Museum Night 2024 Annecy and surrounding areasThe Rumilly Museum invites you to explore local history, from the town’s medieval development to its industrial transformation in the 20th century. Discover how Rumilly and its surroundings have evolved over the centuries. The museum highlights life stories, economic dynamics and social transformations. As part of the European Night of Museums:

  • Guided tour of the temporary exhibition: discover the exhibition “In the workshop of the Baud brothers”, two Haute-Savoyard painters. This exhibition covers a wide range of pictorial genres: history painting, portraits, self-portraits, landscapes and genre scenes. At 2:30 p.m. – Reservations recommended.
  • Musical interlude: the students of the World Music/Corp’Orality workshop of the Municipal School of Music, Dance and Theater offer you a unique performance. Inspired by the museum’s collections, they will present improvisations and musical creations. At 4:30 p.m. – Reservations recommended.
  • Guided tour “a work, an era”: this visit allows you to explore in detail a selection of works, archaeological and ethnological objects. The guide will show you how each object in the museum can reveal the secrets of its era. At 8:30 p.m. – Reservations recommended.

The Heritage Museum of the Pays de Thônes

Which museums are open for museum night 2024 in Annecy?The Thônes Museum offers a true immersion in the history of the region, addressing themes as varied as geology, local fauna, prehistory, history and the arts, as well as popular and religious traditions. The approach is interactive and fun, allowing visitors to see, hear, touch and smell to discover the riches of local heritage.

For the European Night of Museums, the museum is offering “The class – the work”, an exhibition on the theme of the four seasons, designed by students from the Serraval school. This educational and artistic project, encouraged by the Ministries of Culture and Education, offers young people the opportunity to present their interpretations of the museum’s works.
