According to police, a Bundeswehr soldier apparently shot four people in the Rotenburg district – including a child. The police arrested the man. A large number of emergency services are on site.

The suspect turned himself in shortly after the incidents in Scheeßel and Bothel, according to the police. He was then arrested at the barracks in Rotenburg. However, he was not stationed in the Rotenburg barracks, a police spokesman said at midday. The man’s motive is currently unclear. “A motive in the family environment cannot be ruled out,” said the investigators. According to the Verden public prosecutor’s office, the victims of the first crime in Scheeßel are 55 and 30 years old. In Bothel, a three-year-old child and his 33-year-old mother died. It is still unknown what relationship the alleged perpetrator had to the victims. The investigations by the public prosecutor and the police are in full swing. The man is scheduled to be brought before a judge today.

Shots in Westervesede and incident in Brockel

According to initial information from the police, shots were fired in a single-family home in Westervesede in the municipality of Scheeßel early in the morning around 3:30 a.m. A short time later there was an incident in Brockel, 15 kilometers away, in the municipality of Bothel. It is not yet known whether the soldier has confessed to the crimes. Investigators searched his car and weapons were found inside, police say. The public prosecutor’s office initially did not provide any information as to whether the suspect’s weapons were owned by the Bundeswehr.
