Schalke fans riot – long break in the game in Rostock

Rostock/Gelsenkirchen.
Schalke and Rostock fans clashed in the stands. Supporters of S04 broke through a barricade. The result: an interruption.

Suitable for the away game Hansa Rostock The fans of Schalke 04 came up with a little choreography. A large part of the active fan scene wore special hats with the inscription “Ruhrpott” and a large Ruhrpott banner could also be seen in the guest block.

Shortly after kick-off, illegal pyrotechnics were set off in the visitors’ block. As a result, there was thick smoke in the Ostseestadion for minutes. The smoke was so strong that visibility on the pitch was temporarily limited. Referee Nicolas Winter was therefore forced to interrupt the second division game for around two minutes.

But that was just the beginning. Because in the 38th minute of the game, Schalke 04 fans continued to set off massive pyrotechnics. Further provocations between the Gelsenkirchen team and the Hansa Rostock fan scene followed in the stands – and these even threatened to escalate. Some Schalke fans broke through a security window in the guest block and apparently wanted to storm towards Rostockers in a neighboring block. This friction in the stands of the Ostseestadion did not remain without consequences: referee Nicolas Winter interrupted the game again and even sent both teams to the dressing rooms in the 40th minute. According to an announcement from the stadium spokesman, the game was “continued to be interrupted for the time being” due to safety concerns.
