1. Seeds Plants can best and most cheaply be propagated with seeds, especially in the vegetable patch, because they are significantly cheaper than plants that have already been grown. When buying, make sure that it is pure seed and not a hybrid. Some plants, such as tomatoes or squash, also leave enough seeds for the next generation.
2. Hedges and shrubs Some shrubs and hedges can be easily propagated without having to go to the nearest garden center. Hedges and fruit trees such as blackberry or currant bushes are grown from sticks. It is enough to cut off a branch that is not too old and has no leaves and stick it in the ground.
3. Layer of mulch Mulch can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. In autumn, fallen leaves can be used to mulch beds, depending on the type of leaf. The loose layer of foliage on the bed insulates, protects plants from the cold and serves as a natural fertilizer.
4. Water Money can also be saved when it comes to water consumption in the garden. Use rainwater to water your plants instead of tap water. For example, catch the rainwater in a rain barrel.
5. Fertilizer It doesn’t have to be the expensive fertilizer from a specialty store. Healthy plant residues from the garden and green leftovers from the kitchen form an ideal fertilizer for the local greenery.
