Alarming discovery in the Taklamakan Desert in China: satellite images show models of American warships – targets for military exercises according to the USA.

According to the US, the Chinese military has built dummies of an aircraft carrier and two other warships of the United States Navy for possible target practice in the desert. According to a report from the US Naval Institute (USNI) in Annapolis, Maryland, available on Monday, satellite images show the replicas in the Ruoqiang area of the Taklamakan Desert in the northwestern Chinese region of Xinjiang.

China has massively upgraded its military in recent years

The aircraft carrier model is practically flat in its original size and should appear similar to a target image on the radar, according to the report. It is not the first time such targets have been built in the desert, but these replicas are more accurate and more developed. It is not clear from the pictures how detailed the dummies were made, but according to the USNI, features of a destroyer, including its funnels and weapon systems, could be identified.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told the press in Beijing on Monday, when asked about the report on the dummies, “I don’t know about this matter.”

China has massively upgraded its military in recent years, and its capabilities and intentions are a growing concern in Washington amid growing tensions between the two countries over Taiwan and China’s controversial territorial claims in the South China Sea.
