Broadcast this evening on France 2, “Santa Claus is trash” has a few little hidden jokes, including one that you can read on a sign at the end of the film.
A very well hidden tribute to Jean Poiret in Le Dîner de Cons, a reference to the Godfather in Asterix and Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre, a particular photograph in Les Visiteurs or even a burst of laughter from Louis de Funès that is difficult to repress in Le Corniaud…
Like famous pop culture sagas such as Star Wars or The Lord of the Rings, certain popular French comedies sometimes contain a few little winks for the attention of spectators who will be able to spot them.
This is also the case with Santa Claus is Rubbish, a true end-of-year classic signed by the Splendid troupe and Jean-Marie Poiré, and broadcast this evening on France 2.
If you have the idea of (re)discovering this famous comedy carried by Thierry Lhermitte (and his famous “C’est c’la, oui!”), Anémone, Christian Clavier, Gérard Jugnot and Marie-Anne Chazel, open the eye in the last minutes of the film.
At 1 hour, 25 minutes and 32 seconds, in the scene where the characters go to the zoo to disappear the body of the repairman they accidentally shot, look closely at the small sign on the left of the screen.
“It’s forbidden to give food to animals, it’s marked there!”, exclaims Christian Clavier to the attention of the other three. But did you take the time to actually read the message?

On the panel, we can indeed decipher the following words: “For the sake of the animals, do not distribute ANY FOOD on Sundays and public holidays.” (see above)
This is one last little joke intended for the more observant spectators. Given that the rest of the film took place on the evening of December 24, this scene takes place on the morning of the 25th, a public holiday since it is Christmas. The characters therefore have absolutely no authorization to feed the lions in the zoo at that moment, and even less so when we know what they are carrying in their packs.
