An old record has fallen. Olympic shot put champion Ryan crouser, 28, shattered the world record for the specialty, 31 years old, with a throw to 23.37 meters, during the American selections, this Friday in Eugene (Oregon).
Favorite of this showdown, Crouser wrote a new page in the history of his sport by erasing his compatriot from the shelves Randy Barnes, whose previous reference mark dated from 1990, with 23.12 meters.

“I felt really, really confident coming here, but it was not in my expectations. The times I didn’t get it was because I was a little tense and trying to force things. I stayed relaxed and executed the plan I had. This is what allowed me to succeed, ”he commented. If the feat is resounding, it is not surprising, because its recent performances hinted at this possibility.
In the morning, during the qualifying heats of the event, he launched his weight to 22.92 meters on his first attempt, achieving the fifth best performance of all time, which therefore becomes de facto the sixth. And in the final, he took his time. After three warm-up throws at 22.61 meters, 22.55 meters and 22.73 meters, he released his monstrous throw.
