The war in Ukraine is being fought harder, and the tension surrounding the conflict is also becoming increasingly noticeable in Russia. The Duma, the lower house of parliament, passed a new law on Friday imposing harsh penalties on those who spread false information about the Russian armed forces or discredit the army. Calling for sanctions can also be punished with high fines and imprisonment for up to 15 years. The approval of the Federation Council and the signature of President Vladimir Putin are still required for the law to come into force, but are considered a formality.
