Kremlin critic Vladimir Kara-Mursa has been sentenced to 25 years in prison in Russia. The 41-year-old opposition figure is accused of high treason.

The prominent Russian opponent of the Kremlin Vladimir Kara-Mursa has been sentenced in Moscow to 25 years in prison for high treason. The city court imposed the controversial verdict on Monday against the 41-year-old opposition figure, who had also sharply criticized Russia’s war against Ukraine and is considered one of the harshest critics of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

After the closed-door trial, the Moscow court announced that the opposition figure was guilty of “high treason,” “spreading misinformation” about the Russian army and working illegally for an “undesirable” organization, an AFP journalist said on Monday reported. The well-known activist was a confidant of opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, who was shot dead in 2015.
