Runoff election in Raguhn-Jeßnitz: AfD appoints Hannes Loth as the first mayor

Raguhn-Jessnitz/MZ – – In the runoff election in Raguhn-Jeßnitz, Hannes Loth (AfD) got the most votes. He won against his non-party opponent Nils Naumann. The AfD is the first full-time mayor in Saxony-Anhalt. Loth got 51.1 percent of the votes. In the end it got tight again.

“I am very grateful to the citizens of Raguhn-Jeßnitz who voted for me,” said Loth after his victory. “But I’m also there for the citizens who haven’t had the courage yet or who still need to be convinced.” He was ready to talk. “The election was primarily decided by the municipal issues,” says Loth. The tailwind from federal politics should not be underestimated.

As expected, the two applicants went head-to-head. After counting nine of the eleven polling stations, an interim result was published for the first time. The AfD candidate had already been ahead with a plus of 254 votes. Naumann was able to score again, especially with the postal voters. But in the end that wasn’t enough. In the end, 107 votes more for Loth decided the mayoral election. At 61.5 percent, turnout was a good four percentage points higher than in the first ballot.

national interest

The day of the election and above all the result are also highly regarded nationwide. Media representatives reported on the election, and several television teams, such as those from MDR, RTL and n-tv, were there to count the votes. The first sympathizers also gather in front of the office of AfD candidate Hannes Loth from 6 p.m. The jubilation was great when his victory was confirmed at 7:40 p.m.

Since none of the four candidates who stood in the first election round two weeks ago achieved an absolute majority, a run-off election was held. There Hannes Loth from the AfD and Nils Naumann (independent), the chairman of the city council of Raguhn-Jeßnitz, competed against each other.

“The election has so far taken place without any problems,” said city returning officer Constance Mädchen-Vötig. According to Mädchen-Vötig, a total of 7,765 residents are entitled to vote in the runoff. Two weeks ago, voter turnout was a good 57 percent.

Additional demo of the AfD

Both candidates had campaigned very actively for voters until the very end, because in round one there were only 168 votes between Loth and Naumann. On Friday evening in Raguhn, the AfD vigorously banged the drum for their candidates at an election demonstration and surprisingly carried out another demo in Jessnitz on Saturday. There was also support from the federal leadership. Naumann attended several public events over the weekend to talk to the citizens and convince them of himself.
