Rugby World Cup 2023: Jean Dujardin at the helm of the opening ceremony

On September 8, Antoine Dupont and his band face the All Blacks at the opening of “their” World Cup. And two months ahead of this opening match awaited by all lovers of the oval ball, we are starting to know a little more about the opening ceremony which will precede this first meeting.

The organizers have announced that actor Jean Dujardin, Oscar winner for his role in The Artist, will be in charge of the opening ceremony. A great rugby fan, the French actor had also visited the Blues in Marcoussis in November 2021, at the invitation of coach Fabien Galthié.

Dujardin co-wrote the opening ceremony with show designer Olivier Ferracci and director Nora Matthey of l’Endroit. The big show will start at 8 p.m. on the lawn of the Stade de France while the kick-off of the match between the Blues and the New Zealanders will be given at 9:15 p.m.

Other personalities will also be there, including actor Philippe Lachaud, chef Guy Savoy and prima ballerina Alice Renavand. In total, ” 33 renowned guests will represent the gastronomic, sporting and artistic know-how of France” and 200 volunteers will participate in this ceremony.

A ceremony that will aim to “showcasing the best of French culture, while kicking off the bicentenary celebrations of rugby” explain the press release.
