The TV broadcaster RTL has secured the free TV and streaming rights to future cinema productions from Constantin Film. As RTL announced on Thursday, the agreement includes all German and English-language films that the Munich-based company will produce from 2022 onwards. New films by directors such as Til Schweiger, Doris Dörrie or Bora Drachtkin will therefore be shown first on RTL and on the new streaming portal RTL + after their cinematic years, as will productions with actors such as Elyas M’Barek or Florian David Fitz.
The two companies have already worked together on television productions and are now expanding their partnership. “We are on the move,” comments Stephan Schäfer, Co-Head of RTL Germany. The deal is a “big step on the way from RTL to the leading entertainment brand”. Most recently, the Cologne broadcaster had recruited former ARD news anchors Jan Hofer and Pinar Atalay for the new news show RTL direct expanded its range of information.
