Important visit to Bellevue Palace: Denmark’s Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik are guests of Federal President Steinmeier. The visit is about culture, economy – and a farewell.

Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II (81) and her son Crown Prince Frederik (53) are expected on Wednesday for a four-day state visit to Germany.

The invitation to the royal family came from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. He and his wife will also greet Margrethe and Frederik after their arrival at Bellevue Palace.

The program of the Danish royals ranges from cultural visits to meetings with business representatives. On Wednesday, Queen Margarethe will visit the Charité hospital in Berlin, where the history and new projects of the largest university hospital in Europe will be discussed.

A meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel is planned afterwards. A visit to the new Humboldt Forum and the Brandenburg Gate are also on the agenda in the afternoon. The Danish queen and her son will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony in front of the Neue Wache, the memorial to the victims of war and tyranny.

The two are accompanied by the Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod and a delegation of 52 business representatives. Regarding the upcoming change of government in Germany, Kofod said: «I hope the state visit will be the beginning of a new chapter in Danish-German relations in which we will take cooperation to an even higher level. Not least in the areas of climate and digitalization, which are high on the agenda in both Denmark and Germany. “

The visit to Berlin lasts until Friday. Then Queen Margrethe will travel to Munich alone.
