Anyone who wants to use the German railway network has to pay a fee. That should increase massively. A large part of the industry is now resisting this – even the company that collects the toll.
It’s a price shock: the fees that freight railways have to pay to use the German rail network are expected to rise by 16.2 percent. This corresponds to 52 cents more per kilometer driven. In long-distance transport, the price increase is said to be as much as 17.7 percent. A massive increase – and unsustainable, say the companies affected. Either they would have to significantly increase prices for customers or they would be stuck with the costs, which would mean having to give up part of the business, they say. Therefore, they are suing, according to information from South German newspaper now against the price increase that has already been approved.
