The judiciary is taking its time. The now 61-year-old Manfred Genditzki has been in prison for almost 13 years because the Regional Court of Munich II found it proven that he drowned the pensioner Lieselotte Kortüm in the bathtub in her apartment in Rottach-Egern in October 2008. In June 2019, Genditzki’s attorney, Regina Rick, applied to reopen the case. It took the District Court of Munich I a year and a half to decide to reject the application for reopening as inadmissible. In September 2021, however, the Munich Higher Regional Court overturned this decision: the application is admissible. Now the ball is back at the Regional Court of Munich I, and again almost three months have passed without the court having even set a date for the hearing of the experts and witnesses named by Genditzki’s lawyer.
