New high: incidence rises to 446.7

The bitter record series did not stop at the end of November either: on Sunday the seven-day incidence rose to a new high. The Robert Koch Institute has more than 44,400 new cases. Good news: the number of those who have recovered is approaching the 5 million mark.

The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections has again reached a new high: According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) from the morning, the value increased to 446.7. On Saturday it was 444.3, on Sunday last week it was 372.7. The seven-day incidence indicates the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week. On November 8, the value in Germany exceeded the threshold of 200 for the first time and thus the previous high since the start of the pandemic in December 2020 (197.6). Since then, new highs have been recorded every day.

According to the RKI, 44,401 new infections with the corona virus were recorded nationwide within 24 hours. The highest number of 76,414 new cases was registered on Friday. According to the RKI, the death toll from the pandemic in Germany rose by 104 to 100,883 cases. Last Thursday, the number of corona deaths in Germany exceeded the threshold of 100,000.

Hospitalization incidence almost at 6

On November 18, the federal and state governments set the so-called hospitalization incidence as the decisive benchmark for tightening the corona measures. This value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants are in hospital within seven days because of a corona infection. From a value of three, the 2G rule applies across the board for events in a federal state – that is, only those vaccinated against the coronavirus and those recovered from Covid-19 are allowed. According to the RKI, the nationwide hospitalization incidence on Friday was 5.97. No current figures will be published on the weekend.

According to the RKI, the total number of registered cases of infection in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 5,761,696. The institute put the number of people recovered from illness caused by the coronavirus in Germany at around 4,823,700.

Note: The RKI figures usually differ slightly from the case data that ntv.de reports daily in the evening. The ntv.de data team has direct access to the registration figures from the federal states as published by the local ministries and authorities. The RKI, on the other hand, is bound to the legally prescribed reporting channels, which can lead to a delay.

In addition, the respective daily values map different recording periods: the ntv evaluation collects the country information published by the evening and uses this to calculate a daily status of the reported number of cases, which is usually published from 8 p.m. onwards. The RKI’s recording system, on the other hand, takes into account incoming reports up to midnight, with the current data status being announced the following morning.
