It’s getting tight again in the intensive care units. According to the Ministry of Health, there are 20 percent fewer beds available than last year – the reason: a lack of staff.

Corona will also return in autumn. Experts warn of a dramatic situation in the hospitals. The districts are also tightening the rules in Lower Bavaria.

In view of the sharply increasing corona numbers, the President of the Bavarian District Association, Christian Bernreiter, has called on the federal and state governments to act quickly. “We need clear announcements,” he told the SZ. Bernreiter drew a gloomy picture of the situation: In hospitals things go “haywire”, the authorities “whistle out of the last hole”. The four or five worst months of the pandemic are still to come. Even now, however, the rules are no longer being observed in many places. He knew from private celebrations with up to 1000 guests, and shaking hands was also common again. “People are no longer doing it,” said Bernreiter.
