Rioters set fire to Bengalos near the home of Interior Minister Reul – Rheinland – Nachrichten

Several masked people met in Leichlingen at the place of residence of North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul and set the Bengalos on fire. A spokeswoman for the police confirmed this to WDR on Sunday evening after agencies and eyewitnesses reported the riot. In addition, the people would have shown banners and shouted slogans.

What was on the banners and what slogans they shouted is unclear, according to the police. Therefore, one does not yet know from which spectrum the group of masked people is. “We’re still in the middle of the investigation“, the spokeswoman continued.

She also confirmed that the group had headed off in an unknown direction. A police helicopter was used to search for her.

Reul wasn’t home

The dpa agency reported, citing the police, that it was a group of 20 to 50 partially masked people who roamed the streets of the small town in the Rhenish-Bergisch district. After that, the meeting quickly dissolved. A spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior also reported that the police were alerted by witnesses at 4.15 p.m. But Reul was not at home, so there was no danger for him.
