French judoka Romane Dicko confirmed that she was indeed the best in the world in her category (+78 kg) by winning the Grand Slam in Astana, Kazakhstan on Sunday, her last competition before the Olympic Games.
The 2022 world champion and quadruple European champion assumed her status as world number 1 by achieving a third Grand Slam success this year, after those won in Paris and Baku.
In the final, the 24-year-old judoka won against the Chinese Su Yin. In the semi-finals, she beat the Japanese Akira Sone, world champion and reigning Olympic champion.
With this new title in Astana, the bronze medalist in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics continued her preparation perfectly for those in Paris this summer. The Astana tournament was her “last competition before the Olympic Games,” she said on her Instagram account.
