The trial of the Rio-Paris flight opens Monday, October 10, with gray areas. Questions persist. What are the responsibilities of Airbus and Air France in this disaster? Back on the worst disaster in the history of Air France.

Hundreds of debris recovered off the Brazilian coast. Thousands of data analyzed, dissected from black boxes in an attempt to understand why the theft AF447 crashed. Nowadays, this is the worst disaster in the history of Air France. On the night of June 1, 2009, the plane took off from Rio de Janeiro to reach Paris. After 3h30 of flight, the A 330 sinks into a storm over the Atlantic. The autopilot disconnects. Alarms follow one another.


The pilots multiply the maneuvers while the device is actually in free fall. “Very gradually, the plane will sink. But so gently, so gradually that there is no sense of falling”explains Xavier TytelmanAir & Cosmos aeronautical expert. The fall lasts 3 minutes and 30 seconds. At 2:14 a.m., the aircraft crashed into the sea, killing the 216 passengers and 12 crew members. Lessons have since been learned. Pilots are now trained for this type of scenario. Airbus and Air France are on the bench of the defendants for the trial which opens Monday, October 10 and which should last nine weeks.
