Richard Ferrand, Christophe Castaner… Emmanuel Macron thanks the former deputies of the majority

Thanks and encouragement were on the menu at a gathering of former majority MPs. “There will still be mornings of combat and evenings of conquest. And you will be, ”assured Emmanuel Macron by receiving them on Monday. Among them, Richard Ferrand and Christophe Castaner, beaten in the legislative elections. The Head of State began his speech by thanking the 150 or so guests for “having carried our project” and for “having contributed so greatly to what is today our balance sheet”, report participants.

Surrounded by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and the President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet, Emmanuel Macron had invited the elected officials of the previous term who had not represented themselves or who were beaten in the June ballot. “Political life does not stop at a fight, whether won or lost. There will be other electoral deadlines” and “there are many forms of carrying out a project”, he added, according to his comments reported by a participant.

More deadlines to come

In this context, “I consider that we have a duty: it is to help you return to the extra-political life in which you were before. We owe it to you to support you during this period. It’s a condition that allows us to be credible tomorrow to ask others to commit”, he continued, pointing out that a number of them had left their jobs in the private sector to sit in the Assembly.

“There will be other deadlines: municipal, senatorial, European. Some are already thinking of the presidential elections, ”he detailed, provoking laughter in the audience. He said he had “a special thought” for the former Minister of the Interior Christophe Castaner and the former President of the Assembly Richard Ferrand, “these fellow travelers” beaten in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and in Finistere. “I will always be here because you have always been there for me, because you took a lot of risks. »
