  • Owner of a take-away creperie in Langueux, Youenn Allano has developed a reusable bag for his pancakes and pancakes.
  • His invention found an echo and an unexpected success with the Breton diaspora.
  • The famous “sac’h” is out of stock, the 1,000 units having been sold.

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. When we see the improbable success of the bag invented by Youenn Allano, we wonder why no one had thought of it before. A half-moon shape, a small compartment to separate pancakes and pancakes, and an isothermal coating capable of keeping freshness. Born in the spirit of this crepe maker from Langueux (Côtes d’Armor), this idea of a reusable bag has found an incredible echo in recent days. The 1,000 bags produced to “spend the summer season” are out of stock and requests keep coming. ” I was not excpecting that at all. I am very surprised by this success, even shaken. Overnight, I became the pancake maker who revolutionized the world of pancakes. But I didn’t invent anything! “.

The man who produces 15 to 20,000 pancakes and pancakes a week wants to be modest and explains his approach. “We only do take-away sales so the packaging issue arose. It’s been thirteen years that we pack our pancakes and our pancakes in paper. We calculated, that’s 1.5 tonnes per year. I wanted to say stop, to find a more ecological solution, ”explains the Breton. After two years of occasional reflection, Youenn Allano found his idea for a reusable bag by going to deliver a customer to Pléneuf Val André. “She pulled out a DIY fabric bag with a liner. It clicked ”. On his return to the store, the crêpier calls Floriane Duhamel, a long-time friend, founder of the brand Ze Souvenir. “We wanted the bag to be pretty, practical. Initially, we did it for the customers of the shop, ”says the owner of the crêperie Youenn.

Requests from all over Brittany

Offered for ten days to regulars, the “sac’h” (Breton bag) quickly found takers. The modest price (6 euros including 2 euros donated to a local association) convinced the most skeptical to abandon paper. “I didn’t do this for the money. For us, this is a zero transaction. We simply wanted to reduce the use of paper ”. The inventor hoped to save half of his packaging thanks to its “sac’h”.

It was without counting on the unexpected mobilization of the Breton diaspora, which overwhelmed it with requests from all over the region. Of the 1,000 bags offered for sale, half were sold by mail order, thanks to a merchant site set up in a few days. While the “waste” benefit will be less for the Langueux crêperie, it will benefit all crêpe professionals, who will no doubt be happy to find Youenn’s bag at the foot of their truck. The Costarmorican took the time to submit his model. And placed a new order for at least 2,000 bags. But it will be necessary to wait until September to obtain them.
