Review: Handel’s “Flavio, Re de’ Longobardi” in Bayreuth – Munich

It is more common in films for the main actors to also direct. In the opera, Max Emanuel Cencic is a rare exception, the directing countertenor who has been leading his own festival with “Bayreuth Baroque” for four years. For the opening in the brilliant ambience of the Margravial Opera House, a rather rare baroque opera is once again on the program: George Frideric Handel’s “Flavio, Re de’ Longobardi”.
