Review: Barbara Hannigan conducts the Munich Philharmonic – Culture

The first two pieces that Barbara Hannigan plays with the Munich Philharmonic in the youth concert in the Isarphilharmonie are significant. Charles Ives’ “The Unanswered Question” and Ruth Crawford Seeger’s Andante for string orchestra are two pieces from the first half of the 20th century that foreshadow the modern era. With this, Hannigan sets the tone of the evening: no orchestral pomp, but experimental and rarely or never heard.
