Retail – Bad start to Christmas business – Economy

The new corona wave has spoiled the start of the most important business phase of the year for many retailers. Only 20 percent of 350 companies surveyed are satisfied with the sales in the previous Christmas business, as the German Retail Association (HDE) announced on Sunday. The consequences of the worsening of the Corona crisis would have reached retailers in the week leading up to the first Advent, explained HDE Managing Director Stefan Genth. A good 60 percent of retail companies report a decline in customer frequency compared to the previous year. Against this background, the association requested in a letter to Chancellor Angela Merkel that a vaccination be compulsory.
