Requiem for Alois Glück: Söder’s self-absorption – Bavaria

Anyone who wants to become something in the CSU has to be power-oriented. Clear. But there are situations where it would be appropriate to step into the background a little. Even for the Prime Minister.

There are days when it is appropriate to talk about others instead of yourself. Saturday was one of those days, when Bavaria said goodbye to the former state parliament president, Alois Glück. The President of the State Parliament, Ilse Aigner, demonstrated how it was done: she spoke about happiness in an appreciative and yet personal way. Prime Minister Markus Söder also made an honest effort to honor the life’s work of the CSU pioneer, calling him one of the most important Bavarians in post-war history. But Söder doesn’t work without Söder.
