When you think of an American muscle car, many people quickly think of the Ford Mustang. A very special version from the 1960s is the Shelby Mustang, or GT500. The new edition from 1967 in particular is still considered a symbol of the V8 era today. The special look and beefy appearance gave the car from US tuner Carroll Shelby many roles in films – the car is probably very well known, among other things, from the remake of the classic film “Only 60 Seconds” from 2000, in which Nicolas Cage played the vehicle named “Eleanor” has a very special relationship.
But the old cars have become rare and correspondingly expensive at auctions. In addition, the classic cars are not really suitable for everyday use. The company Hi-Tech Automotive now wants to change that – and is offering the Shelby GT500 as a new car.
Completely new car
Because unlike other providers, the GT from Hi-Tech is not a restomod, i.e. a kind of “modern restoration”, but a repromod. In other words: They are reproductions of old vehicles that are built from scratch according to historical blueprints. At the same time, this also allows all components to be heavily modified, such as the composition of the metals used, which would not be possible with existing vehicles.
The GT500 is so authentic that the former manufacturer issued the car a license and its own Press release released at the start of production.
The fact that the vehicle is new allows the buyer, among other things, to be able to choose the most important components themselves. In some cases you even have to, because Hi-Tech delivers the car without an engine and gearbox and does not offer installation. The components appear in the price list, but they are only used for calculation and not for ordering, it is said.
Only 20 very expensive vehicles are planned – without engines
And so the hi-tech Shelby GT 500 turns into quite expensive fun. Because without any options it costs $214,500 as a so-called “rolling chassis”. Based on the price estimates given for the engine and transmission, the car doesn’t drive a meter as a GT500 for less than $258,500.
Anyone who is still interested in such a vehicle can now apply for one of the 20 planned production places. Because Hi-Tech won’t be producing anything more this year.
