Renault recalls Zoé and Megane IV due to fire or injury risks

Two Zoé electric city cars from the Renault group and Megane IV model cars have been the subject of a recall since Friday due to different manufacturing problems, leading to potential risks for users, we learned from the automobile group and the Rappel Conso website.

Concerning the Zoé electric city car, the recall sheet indicates that “due to a manufacturing problem, a short circuit may occur in the high voltage battery”, which increases “the risk of fire”, according to the consumer information site Rappel Conso.

To date, the recall campaign only concerns two Renault Zoé vehicles, “one in France and one in Switzerland”, which appear “among those equipped with BT4 XLR batteries produced at the Flins factory (Yvelines) between the 1st and on September 28, 2023,” the Renault group said on Saturday.

These vehicles “are potentially affected by a risk of internal short circuit to the battery, due to non-compliance of the supplier process”, it was added.

The possible consequences for affected Zoé users include “reduction in vehicle autonomy”, “inability to initiate the charging cycle” or a “subsidiary risk of fire”.

As a precaution, “a recall was organized in order to prevent a potential problem of short circuit on the battery” and the customers concerned “were contacted”, it was specified.

The group also recalled passenger vehicles of the Megane IV Sedan model.

For this model, “a body component (deflector) may not have been properly attached. This will increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants,” according to the Conso Rappel sheet.

Vehicle owners are advised to “contact the dealer”.
