Religious critics want to overturn Söder’s crucifixion decree in Karlsruhe – Bavaria

The critics of the controversial cruise decree in Bavaria want to move to Karlsruhe after the legal defeat before the Federal Administrative Court. As the Association for Freedom of Thought (BfG) Munich announced on Sunday, the group wants to lodge a constitutional complaint with the Federal Constitutional Court against the regulation issued in 2018 by Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU). This stipulates that a clearly visible cross must be placed in the entrance areas of state authorities.

The Association for Freedom of Thought, a body under public law critical of religion, considers the Cross Decree to be a violation of the principles of state neutrality, equal treatment and religious freedom. The BfG’s lawsuits had already been rejected by the Bavarian Administrative Court and the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig. “It is clear to the BfG Munich that it will lodge a constitutional complaint with the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe,” said chairwoman Assunta Tammelleo. She is in favor of the proposal to display the text of Article 1 of the Basic Law in the authorities instead of crosses: “Human dignity is inviolable. Respecting and protecting it is the obligation of all state authorities.”
