Reit im Winkl: Asylum seekers in custody after fire in accommodation – Bavaria

After the fire in an asylum seekers’ accommodation in Upper Bavaria, a resident of the facility is in custody for attempted murder. The 32-year-old Afghan is suspected of deliberately setting the fire in the building in Reit im Winkl (Traunstein district), the police said. A judge at the Traunstein district court therefore ordered detention on Wednesday for serious arson and attempted murder.

The background and motive for the crime are currently the subject of investigations, said a police spokesman. A policewoman was slightly injured by smoke inhalation in the fire on Tuesday. The police estimated the damage at a value in the high six-figure range, “possibly even more.” The investigation was ongoing.
