After Lunch on the Grass by Manet, time for lunch on the cobblestones. But not just any, on those on the Champs-Elysées. On May 26, the most beautiful avenue in the world will be draped in a red and white checkered tablecloth 216 meters long from the Arc de Triomphe to Avenue George-V for an XXL picnic. “The biggest of the year”, hopes the Champs-Elysées Committee which is organizing the event with LG Electronics.
Each square, 9 m2 large, will accommodate a group of six people. Reserving a square is free and the meal is free! Indeed, guests will receive “packed meals specially cooked by restaurateurs” from the Champs-Elysées, indicates the Committee. Nine pop-up kitchens will be set up for the occasion on the avenue.
Two services planned for the picnic
A question arises: how to participate in this picnic? By registering for the event via the platform paris.fr/legrandpiqueniquedeschamps. Then having a little luck in the draw. In total, more than 3,700 participants are expected for the two services (11:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.) of this XXL picnic.
On this occasion, a new record could be established on the Champs-Elysées. In 2023, it was that of the largest dictation, in 2024, it could be that of the largest checkered tablecloth: 4,212 m2. Enough to perhaps enter the record books alongside the largest tablecloth20 km in Mayenne, or the largest tablecloth2.5 km between Saint-Denis and Saint-Ouen.
