In games between Rot-Weiss Essen and Preußen Münster, the fans keep clashing. The game in the regional league has now been canceled after a drastic incident.

After a firecracker was thrown, the top game between Rot-Weiss Essen and Preußen Münster in the West Regional Football League was canceled on Sunday. When the score was 1-1, shortly after the visitors equalized in the 72nd minute, firecrackers flew out of the Essen fan corner in the direction of the field, where Münster’s substitutes were. “Marvin Thiel suffers a blast trauma and can no longer be used,” said the Münster team shortly afterwards on Twitter. The referee had already interrupted the match at this point – and after an interruption of almost half an hour he didn’t start again.

RWE and Prussia Münster speak up

“Injured players on our side do not allow a continuation under regular conditions,” said the Munsters. The club had previously written: “How stupid can you be??? A firecracker goes up right behind our substitutes… It’s scandalous and has no place in any stadium in the world! Shame on you!”.

The Esseners wrote on Twitter: “The clock has stopped and music is playing in the stadium. Whatever idiot that was did no one here any favours. 1-1 – #RWESCP”. The games of the two traditional clubs, which at times played first class in the early days of the Bundesliga, have been characterized by explosiveness for years. In the first leg in Münster there had been serious riots after the end of the game.
