According to the club, Diawusie died last Tuesday “of sudden cardiac death, presumably caused by a viral infection with suspected myocarditis” at the age of just 25.

“It was and is very important to us as a club to have made this decision taking into account all emotional states and circumstances and as a result of a very intensive consideration process in coordination with all parties,” said Regensburg’s sports director Achim Beierlorzer about hosting the home game. “In this context, we as SSV Jahn would also like to thank the entire German football community for their great sympathy and for the many different words of condolence on various channels. It is a comfort to know that we – and especially Agy’s family – are not alone in our grief. We continue to ask that the privacy of Agyemang Diawusie’s personal environment be respected.”
