Regensburg: fight against clearing a grove for housing – Bavaria

Raimund Schoberer is in the western part of Regensburg on the edge of a little forest that you are no longer allowed to enter. Every few minutes, however, someone cycles along the beaten path between the trees or walks the dog – probably out of habit. Because this little green spot in the middle of the concrete desert, which the western part of Regensburg is partly giving up, has been growing rampant for decades. “This is a wonderful mixed forest,” says Schoberer, chairman of the Bund Naturschutz Regensburg. He stands on the sidewalk – permitted ground – and leans his upper body over into the forbidden forest: “Rabbits and foxes run through here, there are large older trees, dead wood for the woodpeckers. This is the perfect climate forest,” says Schoberer.
