Regensburg: envoy cemetery is being renovated – Bavaria

The historic envoy cemetery in Regensburg can be renovated: the federal government granted a funding commitment of 1.2 million euros, as the Regensburg member of the Bundestag Peter Aumer (CSU) announced on Tuesday. The ambassadors’ cemetery borders on the Evangelical Trinity Church. Almost 100 deceased European envoys of the Perpetual Reichstag in Regensburg (1663-1806) are buried there. Some of them are reminiscent of simple tombstones, some of them pompous monuments. They were built from 1633 to 1805, almost 400 years ago – and they’re starting to crumble and crumble. For years, the evangelical church had warned of the need for renovation. With the funding commitment, the urgently needed renovation of “a monument that is outstanding for Regensburg’s history” can now be tackled, said Dean Jörg Breu. A total of 2.5 million euros was incurred for the renovation. In addition to the federal government, the Free State of Bavaria is also involved in the renovation.
