Regensburg customs officers found around 176 kilograms of marijuana worth around one million euros in a van. The officials found the drugs during a check at the Pentling motorway service area (Regensburg district) with the help of a sniffer dog in the furniture load of the vehicle, as the main customs office announced on Friday. In a nearby hall, the customs officers then examined five armchairs and two sofas more closely and, after unscrewing the base plates of the furniture, found a total of 155 packages, each containing around one kilogram of marijuana. There were three more packages hidden in a plastic bag between the couches.
“The approximately 176 kilograms of marijuana seized are the largest drug seizure in recent years in the district of the main customs office in Regensburg. The street sales value of the drug alone is around one million euros,” said the head of the main customs office in Regensburg, government director René Matschke. At the request of the responsible public prosecutor, arrest warrants were issued against the 37-year-old driver of the van and his two passengers. They are currently in custody.
